Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at becoming popular in the mainstream did not succeed. She was signed to two different record companies, but dropped before any of her material had been released. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The album's title track was a cheerful and flippant single that received a bit of interest from the media. The song I Loved a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism backed with a hard edged electro-pop rhythm. It was an unpopular song in that critics had a problem with it for promoting relationships with a partner and others claimed that it depicted a sexually explicit scene which appealed to men's fantasies about sexuality among females. Nevertheless the combination of polished and titillating melody contributed to the fact that I Kissed a Girl become the top-selling single across multiple countries, generating the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold, Perry's lively and sharply-tongued album that included the song that was its second biggest hit became a huge hit. The album which Perry composed herself sold more than 3 million copies.
